Bartees Strange: Farm To Table

The indie singer-songwriter’s second record is full of explosive melodies and lyrics about family, politics, longing, and the music industry.

The second album by U.K.-born and Oklahoma-raised singer Bartees Strange was released last Friday. Farm To Table is an indie rock record full of explosive moments, with melodies that start calmly and grow into something bigger than expected. However,  there are also calmer, steadier moments that are still just as strong.

The songwriting on the album reflects the singer’s own life and his perceptions of the music industry while also emphasizing the importance of his family in regard to his career. The 10 songs are a celebration of the past, a thankful note about the present, and a dose of hope for the future. Other themes of the album include politics, racism, and longing for a past relationship.

The album features the singles ‘Heavy Heart,’ ‘Hold The Line,’ ‘Wretched,’ and ‘Cosigns,’ which includes a shoutout to Phoebe Bridgers and Justin Vernon, the leader of Bon Iver – both noticeable influences on Bartees Strange’s music.
